The next project I was tasked with was creating an artistic scene with CAD using technical drawing styles. I really enjoyed this task and had many ideas for what I was going to do with it but in the end decided to pick out an album cover from one of my favorite bands and thought Autocad would be perfect to recreate their “Dark side of moon” album cover.

The first stage of recreating this was to start off with the basic triangle and background. This was a simple process as I just created a rectangle and found the centre point by drawing two diagonal lines that connected the opposing corners. Following this, I used the triangle tool with the centre point of the background being the middle of the triangle to create the basics of this album cover.

My next step was to create the light spectrum and rainbow templates. I started to do this by removing the lines I made to find the middle of the rectangle and a point on the triangle that I thought matched the original poster. I then drew from this point to the edge of the rectangle and offset the line and used the trim/extend tools to make it a solid beam. I did the same for the other side of the triangle except instead of using the offset tool, I simply drew another line in further down using a measurement that could be easily divided to make the rainbow itself.

I then offset the entire triangle and connected the top lines from each side as well as the bottom lines and then used the trim tool to neaten up the triangle.

The next part of the cover that needed doing was the rainbow itself. To do this I divided the distance between both lines by 6 and made a point. All I had to do from here was connect the lines completing the rainbow.

I was then tasked with simply removing any guidelines and adding in the gradient. This part was semi complicated due to the complexity of the gradient tool. I figured it out after a while to add a white to black linear gradient, almost identical to the original.

The final stage was simply using the hatch tool to patch in any blank areas and colour them appropriately, thus giving my finished product.
